This week has been interesting we had splits with the sister leaders from St. Marys. All week my companion had been struggling with getting to meet with investigators and we even had a church tour that the person didn't show up to, but as I went around with Sis. Crowton--a sister from Lehi who has been out for two and a half months--everything was working. People were letting us in and they were happy to see us.
We met a woman named Kim who had told us to come back later because she was giving her child a bath, we told her we would be back at five. She was lovely and she had been through a lot during her life, but she said the sweetest thing, "You never know when you are entertaining angels."
That visit was the first time I hadn't gone by a lesson plan and it was the first time that I had felt a really strong spirit before mentioning the first vision. She wanted to read the Book of Mormon, she knew things didn't happen by chance and she invited change with an understanding that the good was from God--sad thing is, she is moving on the 29th.
I learned many new things that night with Sister Crowton, one of them being, we don't have to worry about always doing a lesson, sometimes it is just fine to talk to people and get to know them without stressing about letting them know that we are there to baptize them so they can have eternal life. Before this I had been thinking that it would be hard to be a missionary because I want to get to know people not just baptize them.
I wonder how well I will be able to work with this new mindset. I know that I have been sent here for a reason and I know that Heavenly Father, his son Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost are not the only ones yearning for people to come unto Christ. Every family member past and future and every friend who already knows is trying their best to love people into changing.
I loved hearing from you Elder and Sister Sheffer, and your stories are inspiring. Right now we don't have any water dates, but the work goes on.
