Forgot to mention

The Baptisim picture is not one of mine. It was the daughter of sister D's convert. :D

Interesting week 01/30

So, this week I decided that I was going to do my own hill Cumorah cake, I made two Minni ones and prepared to teach a lesson on the priesthood to a recent convert who is ten. I was nervous because I didn't know if he was going to be the one to pick the right cookie, but the was the first one to choose and he got the right one! I then taught about the history of the priesthood and how Joseph Smith received it by the laying on of hands. Such a blast!

The next cake was suppose to go with us to a dinner appointment, but it was cancelled, so, we just through it in with another Family Mission Plan and the nine year old there sang us a song and showed us his skill in brake dancing! I'm sure he is popular at school!

We took a sick day on Tuesday. I wish we could have been working, but I'm sure that my body would have continued to rebel. We have met with many different people and many were against us, we think they might have thought we were Jehovah witnesses, but there have been good people and we even got to meet our first media referral. Kim. We had spent a couple of days with doors slamming in our face and people yelling at us to get off their private property, but she was happy to see us. So strange. She is amazing and has been to church and read the Book of Mormon too! I'm interested to see how teaching her will go. Member work is the way to go, she says she has a friend who is a member in CA and that is why she asked for missionaries to come!

We had a regional conference were M. Russell Ballard spoke to us. It was wonderful! He spoke about missionary work and how it is urgent. I'll keep working!!

I loved the update, thank you for sending it so I could read it! Keep up the good work!

Week 4 and 1/2 in the field

This week has been full of such highs and lows. We met with a girl named Stephanie (she told us during the meeting that she was one of the finalist for American Idol.) She and her cousin Sierra, who is fourteen, felt the spirit very strongly and agreed to Feb 11, but two days later we came for our second appointment and we were dropped.

I know that I can work on being more Christ like in love and patience because after we got that call I just put my chair down and looked up into the sky. I felt so lost. I'd been sick for a few days and I had been working so hard on just getting the strength to keep smiling and then we were let go again. We are to invite other to come unto Christ. We do not have to force them, but it is hard when they have eternal life before them and they choose to turn away.

I received a blessing of healing and I was told that I would be an effective missionary and that there were soul here in this time that needed me, but most important, it said twice that I would be heal and the we are given trails to help us to be humbled and the Lord knows the shaping that needs to take place.

I'm still sick, but I know that I must continue the work and become more humble because it is only when we are humbled that we can become true instruments in the hands of the Lord.

Blessings this week, we went to a Baptism of two of Beverly's children down in a different area. Beverly is a recent convert who Sister Delaplane taught before I came. She reminds me of Shelia, so sweet and happy. I said the opening prayer and Sister Delaplane gave a talk on Baptism.

I am almost half way through the 12 week training program. Strange to think I have been out here for so long.

Bless you all I pray for you.

Another week

This week was different. I had my first zone conference, we waxed the car and everything. The day before we had the Sister leaders come and I was evaluated. I was strange mostly because I had to go home an hour early so that we could do the evaluation, it was not what I thought it would be like. It is hard to imagine what the missionary field would be like without this new preach my gospel program.

Zone conference was amazing, the night before I had a dream or in other words I had a vision where I was asked to give a talk, the talk that i have not actually written yet. Believe it or not, when I woke up I didn't write the talk until after I had taken a shower. I was still writing it when our cars were being checked. I also got my letters, one from Sister Abbott and one from Sister Hartshorn. I was a little sad because I had been thinking that I might be getting letters from Nick and Amber and Alan and Kim and the package from Mom and Dad, but I decided that I could always be sad later.

As the Pres. was talking he mentioned that we get dreams that will tell us what we will be doing the next day, he also mentioned the law of Moses. I had looked up a scripture that mentioned the law of Moses for my talk. With all these things combined I was not surprised that I was called upon to give the first talk of the day. I mentioned that I wanted to add my testimony to what the President said and I told everyone about my dream and I pulled out my scripture and then, suddenly, President Berry took my notes away. . . I don't remember what else I said except that we needed to be a search light to find other peoples needed so that we can serve them because we have been called to Serve!

At the end of the day when we were going home to I was still a little sad in the back of my mind about the package and worrying about it being lost. That was when we checked the mail and there was a pink slip inside. I ran to the door of the office, then I turned and waited from my companion to catch up. The package was there and it was unreal. I was so happy, then I came home and opened it up and I don't think you will ever know mom how wonderful it was to see those notes and the nuts. Ever time we had gone to the store I had looked at the price of the pecan nuts. And we cannot open letters except on Monday, but because it was a package I could open it and read the notes I was in tears when I read what you said about little miracles, that package was one of those. I've been waiting for Zone Conference so I could get my mail from the office, but it came from the office, from my district leader and from my mail box, it was the first piece of mail that wasn't from the office.

Thank you for everything, I also got my Christmas card from Nick and Amber. I love it!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Martin Luther King Day!

Fwd: Another week

This week has been interesting we had splits with the sister leaders from St. Marys. All week my companion had been struggling with getting to meet with investigators and we even had a church tour that the person didn't show up to, but as I went around with Sis. Crowton--a sister from Lehi who has been out for two and a half months--everything was working. People were letting us in and they were happy to see us.

We met a woman named Kim who had told us to come back later because she was giving her child a bath, we told her we would be back at five. She was lovely and she had been through a lot during her life, but she said the sweetest thing, "You never know when you are entertaining angels."

That visit was the first time I hadn't gone by a lesson plan and it was the first time that I had felt a really strong spirit before mentioning the first vision. She wanted to read the Book of Mormon, she knew things didn't happen by chance and she invited change with an understanding that the good was from God--sad thing is, she is moving on the 29th.

I learned many new things that night with Sister Crowton, one of them being, we don't have to worry about always doing a lesson, sometimes it is just fine to talk to people and get to know them without stressing about letting them know that we are there to baptize them so they can have eternal life. Before this I had been thinking that it would be hard to be a missionary because I want to get to know people not just baptize them.

I wonder how well I will be able to work with this new mindset. I know that I have been sent here for a reason and I know that Heavenly Father, his son Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost are not the only ones yearning for people to come unto Christ. Every family member past and future and every friend who already knows is trying their best to love people into changing.

I loved hearing from you Elder and Sister Sheffer, and your stories are inspiring. Right now we don't have any water dates, but the work goes on.
